Position Summary


Working with the VP of Technology, responsible for planning, coordinating and executing the organizations Information Technology projects and initiatives. They are able to manage WAN, LAN, SAN, and EDI computer platforms, while ensuring systems are setup to scale in a cost effective way to meet organizational goals. They will be responsible for developing maintenance and growth plans for IT technologies. They assess the needs of the organization and ensure that IT is meeting those needs from a technical perspective. Manages Systems engineer and web developer. The person will also be responsible for understanding the organization's goals, mission and priorities and work to ensure that technology is in alignment with and in support of these goals.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Managing systems engineer and web developer including training, communicating expectations and monitoring progress
  • Working with the VP of Technology to develop the annual IT budget while ensuring cost effectiveness
  • Streamlining technology tools and resources
  • Monitoring daily operations including server, software, hardware, and operating systems
  • Coordinating and monitoring technology upgrades, installations, and maintenance
  • Testing and troubleshooting information systems for optimal performance
  • Generating performance reports of operating systems
  • Ensure IT operations are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and best practices
  • Risk assessment and mitigation
  • Staying abreast of technology advancements and industry best practices
  • Work closely with senior team to understand their technology needs and plan a growth plan to align to those needs
  • Lead end user education of new and existing technologies
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding of staffers and contractors
  • Manage and monitor day to day IT Operations:
    • Activities for such a resource includes evaluating, researching, sourcing, capabilities analysis, turnaround times (Service Level Agreements--SLAs), quality of work, contract negotiation, managing relationships, project management, and periodic evaluation/testing of performance. While some of these activities are business administrative, they need to be coupled with technical knowledge in the following areas to manage the migration of operations from external to internal management
    • Network Administration A good understanding and/or experience with computer networks (LAN/VLAN/WAN) which includes knowledge of firewall, routers, performance monitoring, cybersecurity applications, and hardware such as Cisco, Dell, HPE, etc. Some to light knowledge with ISP tiers and bandwidth optimization would also be recommended.
    • Systems Administration Understanding and experienced in managing various server configurations, hardware, and system performance. This would also include knowledge with monitoring software in keeping uptime, peak performance, and server security. Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, virtualization, and various server stacks would also be recommended. Familiarity with technologies from Google, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Amazon (AWS), etc. is required.
    • Desktop and user support Deep understanding of business and end-user requirements. Experience in this area is necessary to understand the operations, workflows, and service models to address break-fix solutions, user guidance and continuous 24/7 support (ideally). Proficiency with various operating software and other general programs required by the organization is crucial.
    • Development Familiarity with coding (Procedural and Object-oriented programming), software development life cycle, database design, and digital best practices are needed to ensure any external vendors can properly be evaluated. Knowledge of Drupal and other content management systems is a requirement for organization.
  • Quality Assurance Understanding and experience with quality testing for IT systems and/or software is highly recommended. Assurance that any IT vendor is fulfilling contractual agreement is critical so knowledge with quality control is required to test any deliverables and/or services.

To perform successfully in this role, incumbent should possess skills identified below:

  • Strong technical skills both infrastructure and web application
  • Direct experience with creating and managing computer networks, network administration, and network installation
  • Experience with creating and managing infrastructure for web applications
  • Proficient in computer hardware, cabling installation and support, wireless technologies, and interface
  • Well versed in cyber security best practices and latest developments

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related field
  • 5-8 years management experience leading an IT and/or web development team.

Additional Information


This position requires long periods of time at a desk on a computer and may require time outside of normal business hours. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment and climb ladders. May require travel to either of the organization's offices up to 25% of the time.
